Picture
Title: The Giver
Author: Lois Lowery
Genre: Speculative Fiction

In the story The Giver the people in the book live in a utopia, a perfect community. In the community there are no feelings and you are assigned your job, spouse, and your children. You are allowed two children a boy and a girl. In this community there are a lot of rules and if you break three major rules you get released to elsewhere. The main character in the book Jonas will learn that the community he lives in is not perfect but the exact opposite when the Giver gives him memories of the world outside of the community.

I think the theme of this book is,” What makes you human”. I think to be human you have to be able to make choices and have feelings. In the book The Giver it seems like the people in it are not human because they can’t make their own choices and don’t have any feelings for anybody.

The book The Giver was an okay book. I liked the book because I had never read anything like it before. The book did get kind of confusing at the end when they were walking up the hill and got on the sled. It was kind of a bad ending because it was confusing. I would rate this book 4 stare because I didn’t like the ending. I would recommend this book to kids around my age because there are a lot of big words. But overall it was a very interesting book.
